Very often on one’s gender journey, there is a realization about sexuality which comes first. As we continue on gender journey’s, that realization about sexuality can often start feeling complicated. What do words like “Straight” or “Gay” mean in the context of discovering a nonbinary/genderqueer/gender nonconforming gender? How do we interact with sexuality in a way that feels affirming to us? How can we affirm feelings of attraction while also recognizing the influence society has on our experiences of attraction? In particular there are many spaces which will advertise as being welcome to “everyone except cis-men” but then what about the queer folks who have partners who are cis-men or want to express sexuality towards cis-men? Let’s talk about sexuality from our own experiences! Share the parts that make us joyful, or the parts that make us confused, or some other emotion.

Genderqueer Chicago is as safe a space as we can make it. To help with this, we have some working agreements that we would like all who come to meetings to keep in mind while within our safe space meetings. Please check out our working agreements here.
Safe space meetings are strictly closed to researchers and reporters in their professional capacities. Meetings are open to anyone else wanting to talk and think about gender! For more info, give us a shout at!
